As of 2026, Osaka Castle remains one of the first major historical fortresses players can explore in Assassin's Creed Shadows. The real-world landmark played a huge role in the closing years of the Sengoku Period and the unification of Japan, and the game reimagines it as a fortified stronghold packed with dangerous samurai daisho, hidden resources, and a Legendary Chest at the top of its iconic five-story tower. Clearing the castle takes patience, but the rewards are well worth the effort.
Before going after the treasure, players should understand the castle’s layout. The fortress sits north of Osaka proper, just inland from the large river that cuts through Izumi Settsu and separates Osaka from Amagasaki. A wide moat surrounds the grounds, making the castle feel like its own island. Because of that, walking through the main gate is often a bad idea. The best approach is from the south side, where a tightrope allows Naoe to cross directly inside the outer walls with very little risk of being spotted.
🗡️ Defeat the Three Samurai Daisho
Three samurai daisho patrol Osaka Castle, and players must eliminate all of them before the Legendary Chest can be opened. Each one has a slightly different routine.

Outer Courtyard Daisho: The first daisho patrols the outer courtyard, moving around the inner perimeter of the walls. If Naoe approaches from the southwestern corner, this enemy can often be caught alone for a quick assassination.

Inner Courtyard Daisho: The second daisho roams the inner courtyard near the lower walls of the main tower. He sometimes walks through a dark tunnel, which is an ideal spot for a stealth kill.

Southeastern Daisho: The final daisho stays near the southeastern corner close to construction scaffolding. This area is more populated, so players may want to tail him for a while or switch to Yasuke and fight him directly.
🎁 Open the Legendary Chest
Unsurprisingly, the Osaka Castle Legendary Chest sits at the very top of the main tower, near the center of the grounds. The good news is that players do not have to fight through the interior to reach it. Naoe can climb the outside of the tower until she finds a set of ornate painted doors, then slip inside and claim the chest.
Inside, the legendary reward is a set of Peasant Clothes Legendary Armor. This gear provides strong bonuses to Critical Damage and Vulnerable Damage, and it comes with an engraving that gives attacks a 3% chance to deplete a full health bar segment on a successful hit. That effect can be devastating in prolonged fights.
🏯 Clear the Main Tower with Yasuke
Once the Legendary Chest is secured, it is a good time to switch to Yasuke and clear the rest of the main tower. Enter through the bottom floor and fight upward, grabbing loot along the way. Several unique items are hidden inside:

Some of the smaller storerooms scattered around the area contain chests as well. Players should watch for the Aodaisho Snake Robes and the Natural Garden cosmetic, which can be used to customize the Assassin's Creed Shadows hideout.
Beyond these highlights, a few small chests may still appear, but they usually contain only mon or replaceable resources. The major targets above are the ones that make Osaka Castle worth clearing.
